Laws of Melbrindar Keep

Melbrindar Keep is the last “civilized” outpost on the pilgrim trail before heading out across the Valley of the Gods. It is actually a military compound with some of the strictest laws in all of Alidor. The ruler of the keep is the “Melbrindar” an ancient elf of the purest blood. The elf lord of the keep has no love for non elves, but understands the plight of those lesser people and the ruggedness of world outside. All are welcome to freely enter the keep so long as they follow its laws. Many refuse to enter, but those who do and a live within the bounds of the elfin law are rewarded with knowledge and skill for it was the Melbrindar who first stepped forward to teach the lesser races the ways of the sword and the bow, and for this reason, the Melbrindar was banished from the elfin lands making many enemies among his own people in the Talou Forest. Those people and beasts that have been cut down by the superior weapons and skills of those who train at the keep also hold grudges against the eldest of all elves and relentlessly conspire to silence the elf lord.
The laws of the keep are stricter than in native elfin lands and are definitely biased toward elfin people. In most cases non elves face death for the simplest crimes though with a few exceptions sentencing usually includes time in the dungeon or stockades; during this time if an elf can be found to sponsor the condemned then the sentence can be reduced to community service to the sponsored elf.
Stockade time in public areas are usually conducted in 6hour shifts broken up by 1hour period for bathing and exercise. Dungeon time is dungeon time with no breaks or exercise.
All non elf visitors are assigned an elf chaperone to ensure their safety within the keep. Most chaperones are quite helpful to their assigned guests given them guided tours and teaching them the proper mannerisms and etiquette to be used among the elves, but on occasion you can get one that is quiet, possibly because she has taken a vow of silence as part of her training at the keep, or sometimes, one may have a grudge against being given such a menial assignment and will be no help at all.
