I was talking with some of my players and asked what they will do when Dungeons and Dragons rules change to 4.0. Most said they were going to get the new books a couple said the 3.5 stuff was already a big investment and they were not going to change. I asked what they would do with the RPGA once the new rules came out, some said they were building mmrpgs with the people in their area (Chicago) and continuing with Living Greyhawk without the support of Wizards again most said they would convert to Living Forgotten Realms. There was some discussion about World of Warcraft, and then one guy brought up Morrowind and Oblivion sand box computer role playing games. Oblivion was given very high marks from people at the table as one of the best single player games out there. I tried Neverwinter Nights, but I never completed the game, these guys said Oblivion was well worth the investment, so I went ahead and ordered it. Apparently there is a huge support base on the Internet, and one person said that people were working on bringing Morrowind into the game as an after market hack. So if you hate playing online but want a decent Computer RPG sandbox game try Oblivion.
Anyway these are the top three games:
Oblivion Just the basic version of this is great.
World of Warcraft If you must play online
Morrowind If you are nostalgic or want to see Oblivion’s earlier version the guys said you don’t have to go back this far, Oblivion is good enough on its own.
