A little About Eladrin

Settlements of eladrin are found in the eldest of forests, near the highest peaks and down in the deepest canyons. They thrive living on the edge of the world where rifts exist making the barriers between this world and others is so thin that one could easily pass from one dimension into another.

In Alidor there are three types of Eladrin the most common type is the kind described in the Player’s Handbook 4th Edition, then there are the scutes eladrin who live on the great tortoises and the caimen eladrin who live among dragons, and act as the eyes and ears of dragons throughout Alidor.

The scutes eladrin are sometimes called shellbacks and live in small groups on the tortoises. At any given time, one scute is endowed with an empathic link to the tortoise host. This empath, is the link between the tortoise, and the people who live on its shell. The link allows the scute to predict and sometimes-even control the behavior of the tortoise; this is where the “bell ringer” comes into to play. Before a tortoise moves, or steps, a bell is rung at the highest point of the shell to alert the inhabitants that the ground is about to move so they can steady themselves. Scutes eladrin can be male or female are usually young adults. They have only one child and seldom have affairs outside their race. On tortoises, scutes eladrin randomly generate or appear during thunderstorms, scutes that appear in this fashion are always young adults. After extended rest, a scutes eladrin can teleport back to the tortoise city she calls home; it is a one way teleport, and she can only take herself and one medium sized creature. This form of teleport is painful to the eldrin, and will make her bloodied upon arrival, if she is not already bloodied. A bloodied scutes eladrin cannot make such a trip.

Caimen eladrin are always red haired females and always young adults, appearing to be between the ages of 16 and 25; no eladrin children have ever been seen, nor has anyone ever seen elderly among them. They are found attending the eldest of dragons throughout Alidor, though the most famous and highest concentration of them, the Daughters of Delarendel, are located on the island of Jelling, where they act as the eyes and ears of the dragon Surma. Caimen eladrin who adventure, carry a small trinket which is a link to the dragon they serve, It can be used to divine answers about actions to be taken or choices to be made but can only be used after an extended rest. Caimen eladrin often have affairs with men and elves, which always lead to Dragonborn offspring.
