I have been building a map of the floating city of Glenfiddich. While making this floating city, I was initially inspired by a bottle of whisky. Back around 2002, I was running a game, and the party was randomly teleported to a city by a crypt thing. I said it was a floating city in the sky. The party asked for the city’s name, and well, I had none, but there was a liquor cabinet in the room, and I was facing it, on one of the shelves, was a bottle of whisky labeled in big bold letters Glenfiddich. I said the city’s name is Glenfiddich, and thought, way to use your environment Shent.
The party did not stay long, they wanted to go back and get the crypt thing and more treasure, so I never mapped the city, or made any more notes about the city until last month. So here I am doodling out a map with photoshop, it is taking a while.
While drawing my map, I am imagining the city to be like Venice Italy, but floating in the sky surrounded by small islands that drift around the larger chunk of floating rock. There are tranquil canals throughout the city and one main canal that circles the city. The outer edge of this outer canal has an infinity edge in many places where the water over flows and falls to the land far far bellow.
What is so cool is last night I watched Dragon Hunters with my son. I saw the movie in the new release DVD isle at Walmart for $9.99 and it came with a comic book too. I googled the movie and found it to be a French film on the IMBDcalled Chasseurs de dragons. Man was the movie good, and the CG in the movie was great too. I am slowly working with Bryce 6.1 and Zbrush and Poser 7 to build artwork for my home game, and I found this movie extremely inspirational. Apparently there is entire series of cartoons about the Dragon Hunters also.
Here are some screen shots:
