Fun Way to Freak Out a 3.5 Cleric

Yesterday I played another 3.5 dungeon and as we rounded a corner we saw a skeleton floating down the hall towards us. The DM said roll initiative. Our priest of Pelor went first and stood forward proudly holding his holy symbol, and attempted a greater turning; the result was a natural 20, a perfect turn, and yet the skeleton still continued on its approach. Add to this that the DM said the dungeon was the home of a god, and you get one freaked out cleric.
Oh the fun you can have with a Gelatinous Cube. This is the classic setup for one of the coolest and scariest ooses out there and our cleric fell for it. We beat up the cube in short order, and joked about the 15th level turn resistant skeleton.
As a DM I have placed G. Cubes in halls just like that, but my favorite place is in the bottom of a 20 foot pit. If I am feeling really diabolical, I have a 20 foot pit trap, where the player falls in and a G. cube drops from the ceiling also falling into the pit making a barrier between the players above, and the pit trapped player below. This is fun in high level dungeons when players have rings of feather falling, because they all look so smug and laugh at my simple pit trap as they lightly float towards the bottom. Tides change once they touch floor and the I tell them a G. cube drops from above.

Oh, that’s evil! I’ll be implementing that into my game as soon as possible.
