ToH got 1.2 million Gold Pieces in Gear Tonight

My high level post 3.5 Living Greyhawk RPGA game finished a little early. The party is naked and camping outside the Tomb of Horrors. They are plotting their second attempt at the tomb, after being magically ejected to the exterior of the dungeon, losing all gear and clothing in the process.

Their plan is:

1. get some clothes.
2. get some weapons and light sources.
3. get their gear back from the Tomb of Horrors before someone else does.

It took a party of five PCs and two cohorts 483 rounds to explore 9 rooms before losing all their gear and being ejected. Gotta love the ToH. That’s seven 16-18th level characters, mind you. All have played by these characters for at least five years. I warned them that the ToH is tough. They shrugged off my warnings, because they are pros.

Well the players left early, setback, but not defeated. They all sounded upbeat in their post game conversations. One guy suggested playing some low level modules with their high level guys to get gear and money before going back into the tomb. I said I was OK with that, but he got shot down. The other guys outvoted him and want to go back in, and get the gear they just lost; some 1.2 million gold pieces in magic items total. On a brighter note they were happy their PC’s were all the correct sex again. One joked that “he lost his gear, but at least he got his “junk” back.”

Now that we are in the thick of the ToH, I can not give away too much else until the end. We meet again in two weeks to do some minor quests before returning into the tomb (see players plan above). Next week, we break and go back to low level games in 3.5 RPGA Keoland. It is always good to have a cool down periods after a major game setback.
