Phases of the Moons of Alidor

Here is a graphic of the phases of the moons of the of Alidor. The world has three moons though only two actually have a rotational orbit around the planet. Moda the largest moon has a 28 day orbit while Claret has a 19 day one. The image is not to scale but does show the relative location of each moon. Findal is a stationary moon at the equator holding fast directly over the city of Alidor. Findal is in the closest orbit. Next closest is Claret then Moda. Tides from the movement of Moda come every 12 hours, while tides from Claret come every 6 hours. Strong tides make sailing at sea and on large lakes difficult especially when the moons are in sync on the same side of Alidor. Inventions of large floating docks like those of Port Headland in Jelling help coastal cities with trade. Magical gates and flying ships are also another way to get across large bodies of water.

I made the graphic to help me understand what the moon Findal looks like in the sky. Since it does not rotate and can not be seen from everywhere in Alidor. Findal is just barely above the horizon from the south western coast of the island of Jelling and as you travel south west from there is rises higher in the sky and its phase changes as the day goes on as it rotates with Alidor away from the sun. Locals in Jerren who can easily see Findal in the sky use the moon as a time piece as do the people of the City of Alidor. In the great City of Alidor, people who look close at Findal can also see many tiny objects whoring about like fire flies way up in the sky, while others liken the lighted objects to moths fluttering about a lamp light at night.

It is stationary because it is really a large space station for use with my Traveler game. Don’t tell my players though. Yeah “death star” size.

The other reason I made the graphic was to help me understand Findal as a god in Alidor, which I will write about later this week.
