A Halloween Tribute to the Tomb of Horrors

That’s right it is Halloween. Today I run my intrepid group of 18th level players back into the Tomb of Horrors. When we last left them they were all ejected naked and unarmed nearly a month ago. After taking a short break from the game, they all decided to gather forces and explore the tomb on Halloween. Their motivation this time? Get their gear back. It is actually a common goal for most who play this module. It is common knowledge that the hallowed halls of the tomb are laden with more traps than monsters. This causes boredom to set in among the payers, which in turn, almost infallibly causes them to make quick decisions that in the end up putting the players in the dead book.

I recommend to all who who what to run this game to have their players make up characters for the game. I offered this to my group but they shrugged off the suggestion and honestly looked pretty pissed when they left the table last. My group are all veteran gamers and experts at 3.5 but even this game can make rifts.

easy button for the Tomb of Horrors

Tonight I will run it with a little Halloween flavor and hope to bring up the spirits of the party with some taunts from then dungeon and add some combat hear and there to break up the dreariness of the tombs unforgiving traps. I will also offer them an easy out they can have their gear, but can not return to the tomb, at least not with me as their DM. I’ll call it the easy button option.

I’m very interested how this will turn out. Letting them get their loot back? Your getting soft in your old age, lol!
