Weekend in the Realms November 6-8th

Wizards of the Coast is running another Weekend in the Realms event starting Friday November 6th through Sunday November 8th. I just ran through the module with the local RPGA group who are running the game here in town, Urbana, IL and in Peoria IL. What we did today was called a “slot zero” and was a popular method of preparatory play for conventions in the old RPGA but not really necessary in the 4e incarnation called the Living Forgotten Realms, because the modules are very well written and very easy to run for a DM.

Todays game goal was to prepare the DMs so they could maximize the fun for any who show up at the local game store. I just finished playing the game and I can say I enjoyed it. The total time to play was about 4 hours from start to end. What else? Oh, 4e Dungeons and Dragons is one of the most refined RPGs out there so you should use the Weekend in the Realms as a chance to test drive it and see what you think.

The Weekend in the Realms game events are always fun and you will get a pretty good sampling for how 4e plays; plus you may meet some local gamers. I can tell you that you should call your local game shop and ask if they have anything organized, because the locator on the the Dungeons and Dragons website is not up to date. Our guy who drove down from Peoria today, missed the deadline, but is still running it at the local shop in his town called Just for Fun. You should also check Warhorn.net to see if someone has a mini-con for it.

If you show up at a hosting store they’ll have nearly everything you need to play like pre-generated PCs. At least bring a pencil and maybe some dice if you have ‘em. I am actually in the process of not trying to play 4e anymore but that is because I am old and grumpy not because it is a bad game. You should take advantage of this event and try the game. Support your local game store and go play 4e and have fun gaming next weekend.
