Ramping up for Winter War 37

Winter War 37 will be held January 29 – 31, 2010 at the Hawthorn Suites in Champaign, IL, and I will be there! I have been going to Winter War since I moved up to Illinois from Florida in 2005. My first Winter War was 2006 and I had a blast. It was the beginning of my move from being a home game judge to being a convention judge. I can’t remember if I actually judged at my first Winter War, but I do know I made contacts with gamers and judges that help me to influence my choice to judge at future Winter Wars and other small cons.

To judge, I normally, just contact the RPGA organizer and they send me modules to run. This year something different is happening, there is a rift in our community of judges, where we have people who play 4e and people who play Pathfinder and third group of people who play Illinois Greyhawk. Illinois Greyhawk is a continuation of 3.5e Living Greyhawk for people who refuse to play 4e and still want to continue their 3.5e character’s progress. All this confusion with the organized play has me thinking I should run my own game. Jeff over at Jeff’s Gameblog does this with great success. My dilemma is, I really want to play Pathfinder and I really want to play Illinois Greyhawk and I really want to judge Pathfinder and Illinois Greyhawk, but maybe I should play some and judge a Pathfinder rules version of Alidor. I have until December first to decide.
