Played Pathfinder last night and had a blast

I finally played Pathfinder RPG last night at the local game store. I think the best part about the game was that it was a standard home game where the players actually interacted with the environment and were starting to get the know the locals. The first hour of the game was spent roll playing things to do after leaving the dungeon. Now that is something I have not done for eons with the RPGA games. For the past 4 years the games I played in were all stock Living Greyhawk modules or recent Living Forgotten Realms games, all have a distinct start and stop, if there is roll-play, it is just for that one instant, nothing leads to anything else beyond that game; that four hour time slot.

The party left there dungeon and a couple went off to by meat scraps and I am thinking what? Being at the table yet not part of the official party, I watch as they met with different NPCs for this reason and that, and then the guys with the meat went down into the sewers and fed and Otyugh. An Otyugh. Apparently they promised it something in an earlier game.

After I joined the group I spent time training NPCs. The DM mentioned something about having a back up party of characters and the NPCs would be them. Being a DM I interpret it as you are going to die or end up in jail soon so these guys will help keep the game going… Neat idea and I may be way off on what his true intentions are.

As for characters I chose a half-elf rogue with a long spear he claim to be a chimney sweep when not adventuring. And in our first encounter I tried my new spear out on a shadow mastiff from a distance, of course, and then promptly panicked with the rest of the party and took off running.

The whole game was fun. The DM is using Pathfinder Society rules for character generation and advancement. He also uses a critical hit deck to make critical hits that much more exciting. He also uses a critical miss deck. The Shadow mastiff fumbled and bit it tongue for two rounds giving us time to regroup and basically stopped a character death.

Speaking of PC death we learned that the priest with AC of 14 should not be the bait guy while the party hides. The mastiff attacked him and shook him like a rag doll before spitting him to the ground bleeding at -6hit points. The image shows the priest down and the mastiff has moved on to the parties other thief. I am the blond elf in the upper right still hiding. I had fun and put me in agood mood just before I head off on vacation for a week at Disney, FLorida. If things go well I may play another game down in Orlando.

I’ve been running Legacy of Fire 1 for six sessions now and we’re also having a blast. Pathfinder is every bit as excellent as it was expected to be and Gollarion is one beautifully dark world.
Glad you enjoyed it too! :)
