Not dead yet

Still playing Council of Thieves and having a blast. All I can say is that it took five years but I finally got into good game with a great GM. I am having fun with Pathfinder RPG and the players at the table around me are all superb. I should say I think Council of Thieves Adventure path best played with among older players late teens to adult, or at least with a wizened GM who is skilled at adjusting the game to the ages of the people present. There is a lot of sex going on in the background but that is not as rough as watching a favorite NPC get beheaded, that was tough to get through even for an elder player. Without giving too much away we did get a finger from the body, so we hopefully will get the NPC raised at a later date. I think our GM is handling the game well, and we are progressing forward fully immersed in the environment of Westcrown, I am thinking this is actually one of the best games I have played in years.

What makes it so good? There is just enough role-play added to really make the game interesting. As a player, I have lost my virginity to a prostitute, mugged a wizard, acted in a play, taught a gnome the ways of a rogue, met and mingled with nobles, partied till dawn and I still get a combat from time to time. What else could a player ask for?

I am now 4th level, and from 3rd to 4th, the experience came primarily from NPC interactions without using a sword. The cool part is I am not a “Face” character; I have no bluff, or sense motive ranks, and my diplomacy s low (8s for Wisdom and Charisma). The GM seems to be able to work me in quite skillfully if I come up with a good “in character” angle. We still roll dice for effect and sometimes things don’t work out, but the whole group rolls with it.

We did have a character death recently, but it was an honorable one. The guy jumped to save a lady PC from a fire ball and the dice failed him sending him to negative hit points. We almost saved him, but then the bad guy blew up in death throws; putting him deep into the dead zone. The cool part is he is coming back as a different character and the GM allows them to come in at the same level as the party. I have always taken two levels away for death or retirement, but still it will be cool to have the player back, though now I will be the only thief in the party.

Being the thief, I know I will die soon, since that is the way of the rogue; some day a trap will get me, until then, I am not dead yet and I am having a blast in Pathfinder. I am actually surprised I lasted as long as I have. I am sure that wizard I mugged is cooking up something nasty for me.
