Florida or Bust

It has been a great five years of gaming up here in Central Illinois, but as of July 1st, I am moving to Florida, Orlando to be exact. So if there are any Pathfinder RPG players in the Orlando area let me know. I should be able to start gaming in September.

Here in Urbana, I have played with the same group for nearly five years, so it will be a bummer to move on, especially since my home game was just picking up again using Pathfinder RPG rules set for Alidor. I have been hosting Tuesday games for the local RPGA group for over three years and I hope to be able to do the same with the Pathfinder Society down in the Orlando area once I get settled in.

I lived in Orlando for a couple years. Sad to say, I hated it. Nothing but urban-sprawl and blazing-hot pavement for miles. And be ready for the traffic. It is some of the worst I have ever experienced. I lived only one block away from an intersection that held the most automobile-related pedestrian deaths in the nation. Also, hurricanes will make your life fun as you struggle to stay comfortable in 90 degree weather without any electricity–sometimes for as long as a week. (A hurricane tip: big public places usually get their power back first, so if you are dying in the heat go to your local library!)

If you are looking for a good game store, you can’t beat Scifi City. They are pretty big and have lots of gaming space. Full Sail is a collage in the area that houses recording arts, digital arts, and video game programming majors–the kind of people who are always looking for a game.

Smokey Bones is the best place for barbecue, High Tide Harry’s always has fresh crab and lobster, and the big mall has both a Charlie’s Steakery (great for subs,) and a pretty decent Chinese food joint (their bourbon chicken is the best!) If you don’t like Pizza Hut, there is a chain of pizza places called Hungry Howie’s that make pretty good food–their hot wings are pretty good too.

There are some nice state parks in the area, but beware: bears, poisonous snakes and spiders (the kind that can insta-kill you,) alligators, and wildcats make their home in the region. In other words, stop at the little kiosk at the entrance to a park and make sure you take a minute to read the literature!

    Good luck down there!

There is a new FSBO website in Florida thats free. People can take advantage of these Florida home services by going to Central Florida For Sale by Owner. That site has a lot of features to help sell homes, condos, or real estate. Hope this helps people!
