I posted a while back that I purchased an iPad for my wife, though I did have plans for it myself, namely, gaming. What’s this have to do with ENnie awards? Not much unless you play Pathfinder, and need quick access to the rules, then it’s the d20PFSRD website I got to the most. I use it on my iPhone and on my iPad quite often and the guys at the Pathfinder SRD are up for an ENnie this year.

I have the hardcover books for Pathfinder, I have the pdfs too. That’s the cool thing about Paizo you can have both. Sometimes I am in a hurry to get a rules answer and the books are not handy and the pdfs are too slow to search, but not on the Pathfinder SRD, there you can quickly get to the rule answer you want without distraction. The actual rule books for Pathfinder have great artwork throughout which sometimes distract me.

Say you want to know more about the combat feat Blinding Critical, well two clicks get you there; that is how easy it is to find info on the Pathfinder SRD website using my iPad or iPhone. The website has helped me numerous times to quickly get get rules answer at the game table. This year at the ENnies the Pathfinder SRD (www.d20pfsrd.com) is one of my favorites and I hope they win in their category of Best Website.

Go to the Gen Con EN World RPG Awards website and vote today. The polls close at midnight, July 25th.

I use GoodReader on the iPad for pdf viewing.

I am on the mailing list for Dwarven Forge, and this afternoon, they sent me a message about their new 3d dungeon tile set called the Ruins Set. This email caught my eye, because it matches very close to the way I actually end up using the sets I purchased from them in the past. Once in a while a will set a dungeon up using their pieces for actual rooms and passages, but most often I use the parts for vertical relief and obstacles; they are perfect for raising kobold archers out of reach of melee. The new set is cool, because you can make a ruined area above ground that represents vertical relief better. I always wished I had a crumbled wall to throw out on the battle mat; this set provides one.

This set is useful for dungeons on the surface, or if you have other parts like their Room and Passage Set, you can mix and match them.

I should say, I am just a happy customer of Dwarven Forge products, and I don’t own this set yet. Both the flyer I received, and their website, state they are taking pre-orders and they have specials, so check them out. The images above are from their email to me.

On our trip down to our new place in Florida, my son helped me create some new monsters for Alidor. Actually, I just listened to him tell me stories of his imagined monsters, while my wife jotted down notes. They are not stat’d out, so they could be used in almost any game system, especially ones were the players think they know everything and have seen everything; just toss an Xmonuum lizard and it’s offspring their way and watch them tremble in fear as a swarm of babies envelops the party. Evil GM laugh…

Xmoniuum Lizard

Likes water
Can be any color, they can trick you.
They are bumpy
They eat grass
They are green if they are in the grass and if you touch them they turn your color
They are 5 speed but the babies can go 100 speed

Ig-mar-gar-ine lizard

It acts dead
They hop, really high, like 100 tall,
It can talk, but only if you give it a cracker.
They eat bugs and corn and spiders and hair on the floor
Looks like a Komodo dragon, but it has a snakes tongue, they are nice to kids and people. They run away from mean people they are super speedy 100 speed

Jellyfish kindfish

Made out of sheilds and swords. If you touch it, you will die the swords are poisnous & sharp.
It’s blue like the water so you can’t see them. They travel in groups of 100. They split up and move on the bottom like a shell. It changes to any color if no fish or sting rays are around. They always do things to fight because they have eyes all over their head: ratio eyes. 2 are real.

I get a kick out of my son’s stories, apparently 100 is the number to beat, if it is real fast it has a speed 100; if it jumps high, 100 is the highest it will jump. Feet, inches, meters, 100 universal units is the beast’s movement. I suppose 100 five foot squares in my game.

Last night was my last 3.5e game with my group here in Urbana, IL. We explored the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk. All went quite well until we had to leave, and some players could not get past the 10 percent tax levied by the dwarves that live in the ruined towers. We found a survivor from a raid and rescued him and some of the players did not understand how the Dwarves, who tax all groups entering and leaving the dungeon, missed the hostage. How frustrating to have your last game befuddled by someone at the table, who is unable to see past the story line glitch and move on.

When I ran this dungeon, I ignored the dwarves and their tax. There is enough to keep the players busy that taxing them for finding gold and magic ends up ruining the fun. I had one group that hired and payed the dwarves to watch the group’s loot, under this type of arrangement there was never any conflict like what I saw last night; people happily payed for services rendered by the dwarves.

It has been a great five years of gaming up here in Central Illinois, but as of July 1st, I am moving to Florida, Orlando to be exact. So if there are any Pathfinder RPG players in the Orlando area let me know. I should be able to start gaming in September.

Here in Urbana, I have played with the same group for nearly five years, so it will be a bummer to move on, especially since my home game was just picking up again using Pathfinder RPG rules set for Alidor. I have been hosting Tuesday games for the local RPGA group for over three years and I hope to be able to do the same with the Pathfinder Society down in the Orlando area once I get settled in.
