Tortoises as Gods
Clerics and other divine types also may choose a tortoise city as her deity. The basic guideline is that tortoises are mostly unaligned, but tend to promote good outcomes. Of all the tortoises, only Argotan allows evil, all the rest will not allow evil outcomes through the use of their energies. This strays a bit from the core rules, but the tortoises are not deities, so much as they are divine entities, they lack anthropomorphic qualities, and in general are unaligned with good tendencies. People that worship the tortoise do so freely of their own accord, and many interpretations of belief exist among worshippers of the same tortoise. Alice may have clerics espouse strength and luck, and also have clerics of good and sunlight. If fighting began between different groups of worshippers Alice, it is within Alice’s right to deny the clerics their spells, and other divine class features until the fighting has stopped. The tortoises will allow practitioners of all known belief systems to live on top of their shells without interference. So Alice could have clerics of any of the known gods living along side a cleric of Alice. Large temples are not found on tortoises, only small shrines, often there are small houses dedicated to this belief or that.
